I have a mixture of Windows 2003 Server and Windows 2000 server.
I want all servers to have time-syn (same time) to one of a server. How to
do it?

I run a program call AboutTime on each server and set every 1440 minutes.

Set your PDC emulator server to sync to a time standard externally. All the
other machines with sync to the PDC emulator by default, without you doing
anything.

i also have some Windows 2000 Servers that are not a domain member
(Workgroup).
anyways to configure such that these servers can also time-sync to the PDC
emulator server?

Yes. Assume the name of your PDC emulator is: pdcemulator (grin!)...

Go to each client non-domain-member, logon as admin, go to command line and
type:

net time /setsntpdcemulator

That'll do it. It will hold through reboots no problem.

Is it real-time Time-sync? Or what is the interval it perform the time-sync
to the time server?

No. Not if you use "Net time /set".

> What if i reboot the server?

You'll have to do it again. The sync (above) is only a one-shot deal.

I will repeate my previous post...
-------------------------------------
Assume the name of your PDC emulator is: pdcemulator (grin!)...

Go to each client non-domain-member, logon as admin, go to command line and
type:

net time /setsntpdcemulator

That'll do it. It will hold through reboots no problem.

-Frank
-----------------------------------------

The "Net" command (i.e. Net time, net use, net share, etc.) was originally,
and still is, primarily a NETBIOS based command! The only real exception to
this (I think) is the "Net time /setsntp" and "Net time /querysntp"
commands. Those particular commands invoke the new W32 (NTP) Time Sync that
you are looking for. The "other" net time commands are simple NETBIOS
thingies that are not time standards or any other kind of standard except
Microsoft. And *that* is why there is so much confusion about the Net
command and time sync. Don't make it harder than it is, just use the setsntp
command and forget it. It WILL hold through reboots.

Mike, the "Net time" syntax on your link below is obsolete. The new format
of the command is:

NET TIME
[\\computername | /DOMAIN[:domainname] | /RTSDOMAIN[:domainname]] [/SET]
[\\computername] /QUERYSNTP
[\\computername] /SETSNTP[:ntp server list]
