I was speaking with someone who works for BT broadband over the weekend and
they mentioned that some of the popular ISP's will be introducing a tiered
BB system this Autumn, the main essence of this being that you sign up for
1/2mb BB, but if only a limited number of people are on the same connection
rate, then the speed for you connection will increase to at best 2mb, and
the suggestion is that you connection will be increase by some amount at
around 75% of the time!?! From what was said the cost of this service will
be around the same as current 1/2mb services!

Has anyone else heard about this?

Google/search for some of my posts in uk.telecom.broadband - you are looking
for the phrase "flexible bandwidth"

The person you were speaking to has it wrong though - it won't be free...

Doesn't make much difference, he's only got milli-bits per second
anyway. A piece of string with tin cans would be faster than that...
