Throughput

I've got a utility that measures. amongst other things, throughput.

What sort of readings should I get for a local network transfer using
an 802.11b WiFi set up?

You should see somthing around 500k/sec, comparable to 10 Meg wired
ethernet.

Though I read somewhere (PCW mag?) that for an 11mbps wireless
connection you are likely to get only around 7mbps performance and for
54mbps wireless, around 30mbps performance.

My Wireless-B usually got about 500 KBytes/s (4MBit/s). I changed it to
a hardwired 100MBit network. Now it gets's around 8,000 KBytes/s. :-)

I'm finding that my present location for my Access Point is quite
eratic, results vary but my latest readings are as follows;

3 306 B 306 B 12.00 408.00 kilobits/sec Success
4 408 B 408 B 10.08 652.80 kilobits/sec Success
5 510 B 510 B 20.06 408.00 kilobits/sec Success
6 612 B 612 B 15.08 652.80 kilobits/sec Success
7 714 B 714 B 13.07 878.76 kilobits/sec Success
8 816 B 816 B 25.01 522.24 kilobits/sec Success
9 918 B 918 B 20.02 734.40 kilobits/sec Success
10 1,020 B 1,020 B 16.08 1.02 megabits/sec Success

I set it to send a packet size of 1024 but it seems to be dividing
this by 10

Sometimes I get numerous time outs but I think this is due to the
siting of my AP which due to an extension being built has to stay
where it is for the moment.
