Hi,

I have a couple of ORiNOCO links Two AP500s and clients.

Does it exist sofware which measures the actual max/average throughput for
such wireless links. I would like to see how different conditions ( fog,
rain etc) influence the bandwidth.

tia for any hints

Tor

The 'iperf' program might be useful to you.

free utility called NETCPS.exe will tell you what you need to know.
Best way I have found is to use the above utility along with Analog
X's program "Netstat live" to do a test. Netcps is run on two windows
computers, one on each side of the link. One computer gets setup as a
server and the other a client. The client will send 100 mbytes to the
server of random data (with no disk access). The server counts the
data and discards it with again no disk access. The values it gives
are in mbytes per second or CPS so using analog x's program will
convert everything to mbits per second. A good 802.11b link should be
around 6 mbits per second. 802.11g should be able to sustain about
double to triple that amount. 802.11a should be around 20 to 30 mbits
depending on brand.

good luck

http://www.pcdigest.com/download/mag.../NetPerSec.zip

Other links (if they even work) require a subscription to PC-Mag, or will
get you the Chinese version of it...
