Hi,

How do I throttle traffic - too many requests from a single IP in too
short a time (I get to define what "too short a time" is) ?

Is it iptables, or, hopefully, something in the kernel itself that I
can tamper with, with /proc ?

thanks.

Use the limit-module of iptables (which is something in the kernel itself).

sometimes social throttling is a good idea. Just talk to the people
sitting behind the IP if this is possible (if your customer is fetching
his pop-account every 2 seconds)

Sometimes services allow nice throttling also (i.e. imap allows
limitation on how often a user can access its pop-account)

best,
peter

well ... today I was thinking a lot about a new attempt of
serverthrottling using a big axe

peter

ps: btw: is there some course like "gardening for former IT-idiots" ?
