Three out of four lights on router

Four machines are plugged into the router.
When they are all powered off, three of the four lights on the router
are on.
Why isn't the fourth?
(It does come on when that computer is powered up.)

it might help if you tell us the make and model of the router...

On a Dell here, the ethernet card (and other parts) are still powered
even when PC is "off" but on a Gateway PC, the ethernet card is not
powered (even if the rest is). As someone in a thread about noise
from a PC power supply indicated, there is often power from PSU,
unless you have (as some PCs do) a rocker switch at the back, to
stop mains input, and front-panel switch is not the whole story!!

wot?!? dont you mean the details of the 4 PCs to see whats similar
about the three that cause lights "on" against the one that doesnt

All but one of the PCs probably have a 'wake on LAN' feature, which
means that part of the circuitry (specifically the network interface) is
powered all of the time. This is so that the PC can be brought out of
standby by certain LAN activity.

So, for those PCs, the router is seeing an active LAN connection, and
puts the light on.

How would that help? The answer is the pcs are not _powered_ off, they are
just off.

Perhaps it has wake on LAN enabled in the bios.

IME three of your PC's keep the LAN card partly powered when switched off
and the other doesn't.

I bet you that if you switch the PC's off at the wall the lights will go
out.
