Hi mates

I want to start a wireless network with a w98. So i want to know about all
the troubles it can create. I am thinking to buy d-link wireless router
di-524 and a wireless pci-card d-link dwl-g510. Can you recommend this? And
i want to know if you have any problems with distances. My locations would
be 200 feet apart with some thick walls in betwen. And i want to use dsl
modem with i-net connection. Thanks in advance for all input!!

Have a nice day

IME, you're pushing your luck with those sort of distances, and thick walls
involved!
besides which I see no indication that the card comes with drivers for Win
98/SE - it seems to have drivers only for Win2K/XP...

Hmmm - I wish D-Link were more consistent... found the WIn98 drivers, so you
at least have a chance

(assuming you're getting the revB card!)

Distance is going to be your main problem - so you may need to think about
focussing the signal to improve chances of success.

You'll probably need to run thicknet cable with the appropriate connectors
off of the routers antennae connection to within appropriate distance of the
destination. Those antennae connect to the router and network cards with
what is essentially a male/female TV cable connector. You can run it up the
wall and outside to a mast and a better antennae. Do the same at the other
end. That short, stubby antennae is just a short, stubby antennae, but it
doesn't have to be. You could feasibly hook it up to Arecibo and connect to
the space station, provided they are also using IEEE standard 802.11g specs.
