I have Window Server 2003 in main office with 12 Desktops PC with XP Pro.
Sometimes the people wants to connect outsite the office with the pc at the
office over the VPN and then remote desktop but I have a problem when there
are more that 2 or 3 connections concurrents the remote desktop or the VPN
connections droped.
The question is how many connections can manage the server for externals
remote desktop connections over VPN..

Thanks a lot for help

Some router may limit one VPN session. This post may have more details.

Vista VPN: The reason code ...Some router support only one VPN session. --

Max of 3 in Remode Desktop Administration mode. As many as you have client
access licenses for in Terminal Server Application mode.

Thanks for the answer

I know in Remote Desktop Administration it is max 3 connections, but you
mean If I have 25 licenses then 25 people can connect to their own Remote
Desktop over the VPN?

Veering slightly OT....since you're using SBS, why are you using VPN to get
to RD anyway? You've got Remote Web Workplace.

You should always post SBS questions in microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs
even if you choose to *crosspost* elsewhere - SBS does many things its own
way. I'm setting up my reply to crosspost to that group.

(passes Phil some coffee)

XP Pro PCs are *one* connection at a time - either remote or local.

RD to a Windows 2003 server allows *three* concurrent connections (presuming
one of them is /console)

W2000 running TS in admin mode allows for *two* remote and one local console
connection.

Ok here go again… my problem is:

I have server SBS 2003, and 12 PC with XP PRO.

Most of the people travel and they want to connect to their PC's in the
office from wherever they are.

I setup VPN in each laptop PC from them in order to connect to server and
then with local IP they connect to their own Desktop PC’s; so I need to know
if the 3 connections maximum is applicable for this case or if there is a
limit for this kind of connections, I mean Remote Desktop over VPN.

I don't know if I don't understand your answer but just to need how many
connections I can use.

Thanks

I went for the Dr Pepper this morning.

Thanks for clarifying :-)

Please read my first reply to your post. You shouldn't be using VPN for this
at all - you should be using RWW - and you should be posting in
microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs for the most expert help with this.

PPTP VPN is something I don't generally use or recommend - and it is not
needed for Remote Desktop to your workstations on an SBS2003 domain, nor for
remote Outlook use. It is limited and not very secure. Use Remote Web
Workplace.
