Is there any tftp utility available for linux that will alllow me to
authenticate? The win32 utility linksys provides supplies login and
password to allow me to update the firmware. I asked linksys to supply
one, but they claim they cannot. I have made there .exe work with wine
to get the update to work but my next computer will not have windows
installed.

I do know that there is no authentication as part of tftp protocol, so
obviously they have done something custom & non-standard.

Not really an answer to your question, but isn't firmware upgrade
available via the Web interface to the router ?

I know it is on some models. Actually, I've had less issues doing it that
way than when using their tftp app...More than once, the settings were
reset to factory defaults when using the tftp app, but that has never
happened when updating via the web interface.

Sorry, don't have any other suggestions...

Hmm...Looking around for some other info on the Linksys routers, I came
across this :
http://h.vu.wifi-box.net/wrt54g/

Near the bottom of the page is a link for a modified tftp for Linux that
will allow you to update firmware on the Linksys...

This is the work-around I discovered. Login to the linksys and set the
password to be empty (no characters at all). Save and exit the router. Use
tftp to send the update .bin file to the router. Login to the router and
reset the password.
