Test servers cannot connect?

Hi,

This is a real quick question. I have setup a server with its own domain so
that I can test an exchange swing migration.

I have now created another server that I want to create as a member server
to this domain and install exchange.

However neither servers are currently activated and are running on the 30
day timer.

For some reason that I am not able to pinpoint the two servers cannot see or
talk to each other. Is this because of the fact neither server is activated?

If so I will have to wipe them and use our Volume key, unless there is a way
to get around that
--
Thanks, Cep.

They find each other using DNS. Do you have DNS setup for the "new domain"?

Yes, DNS and DHCP are running fine on the DC. The member server is not able
to pick up an address from DHCP and it cannot ping the DC either.

I have even created an LMHosts file on the member server to try and get it
connected but it simply does not see the other server regardless.

Hello Cep,

Are the firewalls running? How are they connected, one switch? What ip range
and subnet mask do you use?

Best regards

Hi

I am running through a single dual speed hub, no other devices attached,

192.168.0.1 to 254 ip range
255.255.255.0 subnet mask

I have even placed a static IP address on the member server (192.168.0.2)
and still the servers do not see each other.

Thanks, Cep.

Hello Cep,

If they are on the same hub you should at least could ping between them.
If no firewall is blocking traffic, check the NIC drivers for latest version
and make sure they are installed correctly. Can you ping 127.0.0.1 on each
of them?

Best regards

Verify the SRV records are registered on the DNS server. See:

Hi guys,

After doing some ping tests I found that the member server couldn't ping the
ip of the DC.

I went through the roles list and found that RRAS had been installed without
my knowledge on the DC. After removing this all seems to be working as
expected

Thanks for the help everyone it was much appreciated!
