Does anyone have the addresses for Tesco DNS servers. I am installing a
Netgear wireless modem/router which is asking for them.
Have sent a request to Tesco but I thought this might be quicker.

From www.tesco.net, a Google site search for DNS produced this as item 1:
http://www.tesco.net/webspace/step8_pc_p2.asp

I'll let you go look it up so you have the satisfaction of doing something
;-)

Can't you leave the DNS fields blank - the router will almost certainly
be 'told' what to use.

Yes - There is an "acquire via DHCP" option on Netgear routers....will this not
work with Tesco?

Have tried several settings on the Netgear both with DNS (thanks for the
addresses) and on auto but no success. I think Tesco need a login and
password and if you set the Netgear up for a login/password it dosent seem
to have a DHCP option. I have tried PPPoE and A with a variety of usernames
(with/without tesco.net). If anyone has set a wireless router with Tesco
broadband I would be grateful for the settings to use.

Good emergency ones to note down are 158.43.128.1 + 158.43.192.1
(UUNET's UK servers) or 195.129.12.115 another european UUNET server.

They seem pretty reliable and are open to all comers. My ISP's DNS
servers fail every now and again, and I love it, my lightning fast
phone line (lol) maxes out cos there's hardly anyone else with a
working system..

Thanks for those. Some time (2 years?) ago, Peter Gradwell posted a
couple of IP addresses for servers at Gradwell.net but they seem not
to be available any more. Was a shame, as they were also handy ones
to keep as secondary/standby :-) Peter M. (x-posted to a.i.p.u)

Some Googling (well, a lot actually) revealed this:

From http://www.tesco.net/ then Help, then What is ....

I am not certain it is correct, but it's worth a try.

It should be PPPoA.

I believe the user names end @adsl.tesco.net

I'm not completely sure that the VPI/VCI is 0/38 as Tesco use
Datastream. Can anyone confirm the correct settings?

Unsurprisingly considering who runs tesco.net, these are the ntl:
customer facing DNS servers, and may well still be providing name
service for tesco.net customers. They're not always the most reliable,
but they usually work (he says, having recently moved away from an ntl:
cable modem connection).
