Terminal Services in SBS 2003

I have a SBS 2003 Standard Edition that currently is
running Terminal Services in Remote Administration Mode.
Unfortunately, I did not realise until I had purchased
and installed the product that I cannot switch this to
application mode. I have a couple of users who need
remote access to the server to access network
applications. When I log into the server as
administrator, I can run the applications fine, they are
Quicken and a real-estate program called SoftPro, but
when I log in as the users the programs will not run. I
do not get an error message, just nothing happens. I get
no errors in the event log either. If you have any
suggestions on what to do to get these applications to
run, or to be able to switch terminal services to
application mode, they would be greatly appreciated.

Tommy

I'm admittedly not familiar with SBS, but check out MS KB 238162 for info
about changing terminal service mode in Windows 2K.

SUMMARY
Terminal Services has two modes of operation: Remote Administration mode and
Application Server mode. Remote Administration mode permits two concurrent
connections and is designed to permit administrators to remotely manage a
server by using a Terminal Services client. This setting minimizes impact on
server performance. Application Server mode is designed to provide access to
a Windows 2000-based computer desktop and its programs for users connecting
with a Terminal Services client. This setting optimizes program response
time. This article describes how to change between these two modes of
operation.
MORE INFORMATION
To change the current operating mode of a Windows 2000-based server with
Terminal Services enabled:
1.. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Add/Remove Programs.
2.. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
3.. On the Windows Components screen, click Next without selecting or
deselecting anything in the list of components.
4.. In the Terminal Services Setup dialog box, the currently enabled mode
is displayed, and you can change this mode. Select the mode you want to
change to, click Next, and then restart your computer.

HTH,
Katherine

Katherine,

With SBS 2003 Standard Edition (the one I am running)
you cannot use application mode. I didn't realise this
until everything had been purchased and installed.
