Terminal Server "lag"

Hello,

I have had a few of my remote users recently complaining of a "lag" on our
W2k terminal server box. Our remote users VPN into a w2k box then establish
a RDP connection to the term server via the Remote Desktop application. What
happens is that when they are using the terminal server it seems to hang for
a few seconds before allowing them to continue work. This is really
frustrating to them when they are typing something and have to re-type
because of the lag. The problem started around (not sure if exactly the
same time) when we upgraded the server from 512megs of RAM to 1gig. At the
same time we also ran critical updates on the server. We have uninstalled
the updates that were loaded and replaced the new memory with the old memory
but still no luck. I have also attempted to use a different VPN server to
eliminate that possibility. We have a 768k SDSL connection with only about
3 users VPNed in. The problem seems to happen regaurdless the amount of
people or time logged into the system. Any body have any suggestions on
what to try? I am at the end of my rope!

Sorry for such a long post. Hopefully someone will have some feedback for
me!

Thanks,
Chris DeFreitas

not sure if its related but after recently installing critical updates on a
server2003 machine, when i connect to the server via an RDP connection the
remote screen is all screwed up... i have to constantly minimize and
maximize the screen to get it to refresh so i can see it clearly again.

The problem does not seem to be affecting the display of the terminal server
other than it just appearing to be locked up.

Hmmm... I'm seeing similiar problems, but only in certain
programs. We have a web based program that connects to a
UNIX box and users complain that it lags or locks up
while typing quickly. I figured it was a problem with out
software package, not server 2003. Now I'm starting to
wonder if this is another Windows glitch.
I have a brand new server with 4GB RAM , duel 3Ghz CPUs
and all users have a 100MB connection to the servers that
connect with a GB switch. I say this to point the problem
away from your hardware (and mine too). We have about 30
users currently on our TS using HP thin clients. I hope
this gives some more clues...

What I did notice is that the server looks like it is having a large number
of page faults... watching the performance monitor looks like it maxs
around 5000+ page faults...i know that can possibly be a problem. but how do
i troubleshoot it and correct it?
