Hello all

I was trying to telnet into one of our Win2K3 Standard SP1 servers
(internally) unsuccesfuly. After a bit of reading and investigation, I
realised that I do NOT have the Telnet service in the services list, nor
could I see it in the registry editor under

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\servic es

I have spent a long time searching on various Microsoft newsgroups, technet
and other places on internet to see how I can re-install this service with no
joy. At the end, I kinda got desperate and copied the following registry
branches from another server of mine:

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\servic es\tlntsvr
hkey_local_machine\system\controlset001\services\t lntsvr
hkey_local_machine\system\controlset002\services\t lntsvr

After that, the service actually appears in the service list. However, when
I start the service, it fails and logs the message "invalid Data" in the
event log.

I understand the error message, but don't know what to do with it. Any ideas
would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

Cristina

The telnet service it is a built in service from windows 2003 operating
service. So it is not possible desappear!
Can you try to repair your O.S. installation?
That service must appear on the services console
