Telewest support (pause for laughter)

If anyone figures out a way to talk to UK based Telewest support staff who
understand anything about e-mail and why Telewest's e-mail servers don't
deliver e-mail, please let me know.

I've been trying to help a friend solve their problems (no e-mails reach
them) for 2 weeks now. I've been writing e-mail software for over 15 years
and I can categorically state the problem is not her PC but all I get from
the support staff is "it's your firewall/Outlook Express/Computer" and other
such crud. this despite having patiently worked through their "standard how
to help a customer" list and also pointed out that even their webmail
interface fails to show the e-mail. Oh, did I mention that I have various
delivery reports from other systems showing Telewest servers accepting the
e-mails?

My favourite was "if someone sends you an e-mail to your Telewest account,
and copies your work account, then your employers computers will block it
from reaching your Telewest account". Anyone who understands anything about
e-mail protocols will now have a wry smile on their face and the urge to
"adjust" tech-support with a baseball bat ;-).

Thanks for any suggestions,
Paul DS.

Paul

If you want to e-mail me some details (Reply-To: is valid) I can try
to help out.

Thanks

Have you asked in blueyonder.support.mail?
I think you would get more focussed help there than in this broader group.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check that out.

Sorry to ask a newbie question, but where do I find the
blueyonder.support.mail NG? Can it only be accessed from a Blueyonder
account? Not quite as stupid as it sounds as I don't use Blueyonder but I
am helping someone who does so its more tricky if I have to be at there
house in order to do some digging and talk to the support people.

Aside: Someone from Blueyonder contacted me and there seems to be some
progress. I just want to know what to do next time ;-).

Cheers,
Paul DS.

Ah sorry - I missed that you were not a BY customer. Yes the BY newsgroups only
exist on their news server(s) but the quality of assistance is (usually) better
than I have seen reported by people using the telephone route.
But AB should get your problem sorted in double-quick time...

Actually that reminds me that I do need to have a conversation about
cross-populating the NTL and Virgin.Net ones also so that all can
start knowing each other and getting help.

Standards have dropped in the BY groups.
Used to be a nice family goup.
Even Nigel Bourne swears in there now.
It must be bad.
