Telewest - need for digging up garden / use of existing kit

I've decided to switch from BT and adsl to Telewest for my phone and
broadband.

I live in a two story flat on the top. When I called to sign up, I was
told that I had to have permission from my neighbor below.

She called them up, concerned that her front garden would have to be
dug up again, since Telewest had done this already. Telewest told her
yes. She refused permission.

She is a Eurobell phone and Telewest cable TV subscriber. There is a
cable box mounted on the outside of the front of her house. On the
inside of the house there is a Telewest broadband cable box, which
runs to her TV.

Now - Inside my living room, one floor up, are a Eurobell phone port
on one wall and an identical cable box to my neighbor's on the other
wall, also labeled Eurobell (it says FM, TV, data on the bottom).

I want to know the answer to two questions, if anyone can help me:

1) If I already have both a Eurobell phone port and a Eurobell cable
port, why does telewest need to dig up the front garden again - why
can't they use the existing boxes?

2) If Telewest service is already coming in downstairs, why can't
Telewest just
run a wire up to my living room (as opposed to digging up the front
garden of my
neighbor)

thanks for any help.

They don't assuming it's already fully cabled up from the street side DP and
of course they can re-use or replace existing termination boxes.

I have no idea why they cannot use the existing duct from the street or use
the existing cable that already feeds your home [If indeed it's been
installed historically]. Thay cannot however tap from your neighbours cable.

Cable Co.s do not remove any cabling after a service is ceased they just
visit the DP (Green Box) and disconnect there.

Could it be that they 'lost' the information about eurobell customers
that were previously connected.

Could just be a case of ordereding it anyway and making sure you're
there all day to supervise the installer and tell them not to bother if
they insist on digging up the garden.

LOL who are you kidding - you think they use ducting in gardens ! *LOL*

It was hard enough to get Telewest to use ducting in the footpath or for
road crossings around here ;-)

phone them and say that you already have the connection points in your
property.

So they just dig a small trench and drop the cable in? It was my
understanding that the use a small diameter plastic pipe!

I could be wrong again but I believe that all utilities are required by law
to use protective ducting on public land.

Trench ? LOL - not in my experience. The Telewest cable I had installed
was at most 3" deep, and simply pushed into gap left by a spade being
poked into the ground.

Their "engineer" later went on to test the phone was live by putting
their tongue across the end of the cable.

....and kids aren`t supposed to play with fireworks...

Make of that what you will :-p

Jones Cable Group did when they installed to our Leeds property in the mid 90s.

your garden isn't public land.

That's all they did with me, in fact they didn't even dig a trench, the
bloke just stuck a spade in to make a slit in the earth and dropped the
cable into it as he went along..!

There's ducting under the pavements though ;-)
