Hi,

I have been with Tesco broadband for a while now (only 512K) and to be
honest I have been very happy with it, it has never let me down once!

The thing is, I am moving house this weekend and I have to go from Sky
to telewest for my TV so I was thinking about going for the TV, Phone
and broadband package.

What I need to know is:

Has anybody had any problems with telewest broadband?

Is it reliable?

Is there really no download limits?

Can it be used for usenet and peer to peer downloads?

Easy setup?

Good customer support?

Will my wireless netgear DG384GT router work with it?

Sorry for all the questions but I dont want to change if its going to
cause problems but I would like the idea of upgrading my download
speed.

Thanks for your help

Alex.

I've been with TW for neary 3 years. Tried all the broadband options
and am currently using 10mb- usually get 8.5-9mb at most. Never had any
problems with them at all, also have their phone(basic) and tv(supreme
option) and these hav been faultless too. Costs me about £60 a month
for 10mb BB, basic phone and supreme tv. I would stronlgy reccomend
them. From redaing various forums I see other people have had problems,
maybe I'm lucky or maybe I'm in majority. Customer service has also
been excellent for me.

dg384gt will NOT work with cable as it is a adsl/router modem
You will have to acquire a straight router

Yes as with all suppliers.

Yes it is reliable.

No limits for now.

Yes. They have a binary server too but with a short retention period.
You will want a service for fills (Astraweb?)

If you buy a cable router yes, the one you have won't work.

I have never used it in three years..

As you are moving house you don't know if staying with what you have will
cause problems.

Thanks for the advice.

Any advice on what wireless router to go for? I might not even need one
but it would be useful.

My current setup is the router downstairs, my computer upstairs over
the wireless but my missus uses the router downstairs using a cable,
thats all I am after really.

Alex.

Give the phone a miss, you will find it expensive for calls outside of
your call package. For example calls to mobiles are more expensive than
BT and evening calls will be charged at 3p/min plus 6p connection fee
rather than BT's 5.5p flat fee for 60 minutes.

Have a look here at call cost comparison, except the page is out of
date as far as "cheap" UK calls are concerned as TW increase their
costs by 50% to 3p/min from 1st October I believe.

http://www.magsys.co.uk/telecom/tarifres1.htm

A

TW currently do a 2 for £20 offer (broadband and TV).

Yeah ditto to that.

Using a Linksys WRT54G wireless connection without a hitch.

Well for a start you don't need a wireless router, just a wireless
access point (which you just plug into your existing router) but
before going that way, if you want 100% reliability think about using
your mains wiring. It won't be much more than a decent wireless
access point & it will be more secure...
