my sister and family are buying a 2nd computer, they already have
broadband via Telewest-Blueyonder, win98 PC connected to cable modem
via usb cable
the second PC will be winxp home.
i have purchased a belkin wireless- router and plan to connect this
wireless-router to the telewest-blueyonder box via the RJ45/ethernet,
the current win98 PC will connect to the wireless-router via the
RJ45/ethernet, the new winxp PC will connect via wireless as it will
be downstairs in a different part of the house
does anyone know if i need to let telewest know about second PC?
they used to verify/security via mac address, thier broadband web site
says this is not the case now and it is just a case of powering off
the cable modem plugging in the new device and powering on cable
modem. does this mean the new belkin wireless-router box becomes the
new device and the telewest system will pick it up.
any advice or previous knowledge would be helpful

If your router has DHCP server enabled (in most routers it is default
factory setting) then you are safe.
Cable modem has got its own MAC address which is registered with TW.

Also which belkin router you talking about?

Yes mate, don't worry about anything... It will definately work! Just
make sure you are setting it up properly through its web interface
(Read the literature/manual for all the settings step by step)

Don't forget to look at Robin Walker's excellent site about cable modems.

My main problem in setting up the network was bloody Norton and its firewall.

Yes that's right. There's no need to worry about the device MAC address any
longer as Blueyonder don't require it any more.

The Cable modem will issue an IP number to any device that asks for it be-it a
PC or a router.

However, be aware that if you have any problems setting up the router (and the
network) Blueyonder won 't help you resolve them as they don't offer support
to networks (lans) connected to their system. The help desk will only help
with the setting up of a single PC to their network. As far as they're
concerned, `if you want to connect a lan to their system', it's your
responsability.

FYI

Telwest no longer register the MAC address.
