Telephone line disconnection using Freeserve Broadband

I have been using Freeserve Broadband for about six months. I am
using a Connexant AccessRunner PCI ADSL internal modem with the
included filter. I have, in addition, three other phones, all plugged
into the wall via their own sockets. Now for the problem - on several
occasions (probably about once a fortnight), I have found the I have
lost the telephone line. Typically, I start up the computer and
connect for about 4-5 hours each day, and the modem never drops the
connection once connected.

That's all good, now for the problems. It seems to take an age for
the modem to detect the line and connect (say 3 minutes), and on an
average of once a fortnight, the telephone line goes down. I go to
make a call and find the phone line dead. This is remedied by
switching the compuer off and back on again (it is not enough to
disconnect the ADSL line).

Both the broadband and voicelines have been tested and confirmed to be
OK (although I get the impression the broadband test is little more
than a "ping"). Freeserve have advised me to unplug all phones and
see how long it takes to connect, but the results are less than
conclusive. They also advised me to try pluggin three filters in
series followed by the modem, but again, less than conclusive.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the problem. Does it sound like
filters, modem or line?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

filters are there only for the telephone side of bt lines.

they filter out the high frequency dsl needed for adsl.

hence no filter needed for adsl modem!!
