Telephone extension cable and routers

I've been told the wireless routers given by ISPs will only work if
connected to the first telephone socket provided by BT. The telephone
extensions we all buy and use can not be used to have router in another room
is this correct?

You should be able to use any extension for your router, BUT this assumes
that your extension wiring has been correctly installed and uses the correct
cable. Some, but not all, extension kits use a flat cable that can
seriously slow your connection. I suggest that you initially try at your
'first socket' and see what speed and quality you can get, then move it to
an extension and decide if it's still acceptable.
