Depends where he is really... If you use the 'Phone search' (under the
heading 'Availability') on
www.samknows.com you can find various info,
such as whether cable serves the area, and the availability of LLU.
LLU opens up the possibility of using UK Online for 9.99/month (and
other services too, but not all exchanges have alternative services).
The question after 'where is he' might be 'What will be the main use of
the connection' since there are various options, depending on whether
e-mail and a bit of light web browsing will be all he wants, as some
ISPs have much lower cost deals for light use, and whether he will be
running a business on the connection, needs a fixed IP address, etc.
Also, whether he might move on, as some of the deals with 'free'
activation become academic (as the saving depends on the user keeping
the service going for 12 months or more - even some which promote their
service with '1 month contract' might have an admin fee to cover the 40
+VAT fee they get charged, if one leaves 'early'). Peter Morgan.
