BT doing line tests...happens here most nights. It's only because I've
used a cheapo phone on that line; all our other phones are silent when
the tests are done.

Get onto BT and tell them to take your number off their Computerised Line
testing arrangement. Tell them that the noise disturbs your family's sleep.
They will remove you. I have had dozens of people contact me about this as I
used to install telephone sockets as a business.......... (nice little
earner it was too)

What you have got to remember is that the testing will detect any
problems on your line well before they become apparent.

You can get a filter which fits inbetween the socket & you phone
(rather like the RF2 plug in filter, but different) & I do know that
BT was supplying them free at one stage to anyone who was getting the
infamous test ring in the middle of the night.

It's been ongoing for well over 16 years now, so no it's not anything
new.
