Telephone and modem connection

My brother-in law is about to join Metronet broadband. His telephone and
telephone point are downstairs some 12 yards from his computer which is in a
spare bedroom. What is the best way to set up his connection with filters
and extention wire etc?

All phones need a filter, but the adsl connection can go straight in
unfiltered.

Depending on the lead you get with the modem you may still need to use a
filter, as many adsl leads have a "non-standard" connector that filters
have built in.

IMHO, It would be preferable to fit a telephone extension socket adjacent to
the computer, and then plug in a microfilter to that. I'd also say it's best
to avoid those plug-in extension leads which are "flat" and untwisted
wiring.
