It is almost a month but Telecity_Redbus management is not telling its
customers why Friday 23 June Power Outage put its customers to heavy
losses.

On preceeding two days Telecity_Redbus engaged in maintainance of its
power infrastructure.

Of course customers protested and asked for same to be done on any of
the long weekends but few bucks were to be saved.

Even Telecity_Redbus's own engineers were aghast at management's
dicision to do maintainance in the middle of the week.

Many customers were sold two seperate powerlines by saying that they
can never be without power except the datawarehouse getting
disintegrated under a nuclear attack.

I feel your pain - but 'why' questions never receive a satisfactory answer

Tell me about it.

Bean counters never manage to grasp what it is that the customers are
actually buying. Hint: it's rarely an item on the stock sheet.

cite?

I manage several facilities in Sov - Including my own and my customers we
had 6 servers fatally affected - two have not come back to life resulting
in financial loss for the rackspace reseller as well as considerable
inconvenience for the server owners.

Docklands used to be the de-facto standard for hosting facilities. It's
becoming a PITA. Two hours from here (Twickenham) except in the dead of
night - Thanks Ken, you're doing a great job. I am investigating
alternatives and have open dialogues with several providers - most of whom
have datacentres nearer (in travel time) to my location.

FWIW: I am also looking at local UPS units to protect the servers against
quick-fire power outages. Of course, these solutions need expensive
rackspace and add to the power load.

Certainly there is no easy solution to providing reliability when service
levels at your provider go AWOL.

Which Telecity site ?
We havent experienced any outages at our suite in Manchester ... although we
have our own power system

What time of day ?
Normally we carry out maintenance / upgrade work in the wee small hours
(midnight till 6am) - during low traffic times. Even then, the work can only
be carried out if there is to be no interuption to any services.

Telehouse (Docklands) had more than that ... they still suffered a power
outage a few months back (
