Tech query - synchronisation

When an ADSL router or modem synchronises to the exchange, am I right
in thinking there is a 2 way communication between the 2 pieces of
equipment before the router/modem reports 'connected'? I'm assuming the
router/modem can't just see a carrier, lock to it and say 'in sync'.

After migrating to UKO I am able to sync but not log in, my equipment
reports connected but theirs says no sync and no login attempts. Sounds
like I'm not connected to the port that they're looking at but a tone test
from their adsl equipment is audible at my end, weird huh?

Service is 2Mbit UKO, LLU, modem reports connected, 2272kbits/s Rx,
288kbits/s Tx.

Modem reports Training then Channel Analysis before reaching ADSL
Connection Established.

The ADSL modem synchs to the equipment in your local exchange. From
there on the traffic is routed packets through the virtual "cloud" to
the ISPs point of presence. Is your service using the Easynet network,
or BT?

Sounds like you are connected to the exchange on the port they think you
are, hence the tone test working. That tone is generated AFAIK by the
exchange based kit, not at their POP end. There is no physical circuit
from them to you over which they could send a tone.

It sounds like (they are not seeing any packets from you) the routing
through the packet network is not set up to transfer packets from the
exchange to the POP. That's an Easynet or BT systems issue.

If your service uses the BT network, try their test account
(see http://www.more-solutions.co.uk/supp...test-user.html for
details). I presume Easynet offer something similar.

Yes, but does the sync process involve a 2 way communication? If it does
then there is definitely 2 way communication between me & them (a step
forward), if sync'd just means locked to incoming carrier then they still may
be receiving nothing from me.

It's UKO (UKOnline) so Easynet network. I'm assuming that bt_test login
will fail (and it has) as it shouldn't be connected to their equipment.

Yes, I have assumed that the tone was generated within their DSLAM? I'm
interested to know how it passes through the HF side of their filtering to be
audible at my earpiece, does it break over as a result of very high volume
or is the audible tone a modulation biproduct (mix of 2 HF tones)?

They have been interrogating their equipment in the exchange (it's LLU)
which I am assuming is their DSLAM (right at the pointy end). I can't think
how I can be showing sync when they show none and yet pass the tone
test for connectivity.

As above bt_test login fails but not surprisingly as I wouldn't expect that to
be valid for LLU equipment. UKO do have a test login but the password
changes daily, that login also fails and their equipment log shows no login
attempts (or sync) from me.

Thanks,
