Ok so I'm supporting a user that is running Windows 98 SE. This user had someone work on his machine and discovered a ton of virus'. As it turns out the users antivirus software expired and he had no idea. So the original tech deleted the infected files, then rebooted, from this point on he was not able to connect to the internet. He is on dial up by the way

Anywho, the message that he is given is "TCP protocol is not installed...". I logged into the machine and checked all his network settings and took the following steps for troubleshooting

1) Ran Adwar
2) Uninstalled and reinstalled the TCP/IP protoco
3) Recreated network/dial up connectio
4) Ran IE repair switch - rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt
5) Ran same switch in attempt to restore to original settings (meaning remove any service packs

Now the problem is that this user has a ton of software that is used for his business and he no longer has the installation files, so a reimage is an absolute last resort. I will make one last attemp and run the setup from the cab files, but was wondering is anyone has seen this before, if so what was the fix

The best solution would be to install 98 on top of itself.
