TCP/IQ utility

Hi.

Has anyone here used this line speed test utility? If so, what's the general
opinion of it?

My NB1300+4 reports my connection speeds as 890/6100 whereas the TCP/IQ
utility reports 630/4100. Is TCP/IQ known for giving misleading readings at
all?

The former is your connection speed. The latter is your throughput?

throughput?

One is the speed at which your router is sync'd to the equipment at the
exchange, and is the theoretical maximum data transfer rate. The real
throughput is what you can actually achieve based on packet overheads,
retransmissions due to errors or timeouts, and any throttling in place past
the exchange connection point.

I just gave it a run on the Easynet 2Mbps DSL line here at work.
ADSLGuide.org.uk test shows 1889/1656, which isn't far off. TCP/IQ show
532/343.

The problem with any speed test is that it doesn't take into account any
bottlenecks between your PC and the testing site. Looking at my own figures
I'd say there's a bottleneck somewhere, and a traceroute reveals a round
trip of 121ms to www.tcpiq.com compared to only 15ms to www.adslguide.org.uk
, with the spike to tcpip.com in the link between Easynet and Global
Crossing.

BTW, that's SDSL, not ADSL
