Hello everyone,

I've been trying to set up a new NIC on my machine for 2 days and can't get
it to work. Whenever i run winipcfg I get a popup that says "Fatal error
can't read IP configuration data". I've removed and reinstalled the NIC and
TCP/IP protocol from the network control panel several times and still get
the same results. Now here's the fun part... I've gone into msinfo32 and
checked the network components. The NIC (a D-Link DFE-530TX+) is there along
with a TCP/IP entry. The entry for the D-Link looks ok, but the TCP/IP entry
says "This device has a problem Code = 11 (0xB) Device failure: try changing
the drivers for this device." Now when I connect my cable modem via USB,
msinfo32 gives a TCP/IP entry that is ok - no problems. I've tried the
following: hunted around the registry in the keys given by msinfo32 - can't
see any difference in the NetTrans folders for the two devices, reinstalled
the .386 device drivers from the 98SE CD, called all the tech suport people
I can find. Is there a registry fix for this problem, do I need to reinstall
windows? Can I just reinstall TCP/IP (how)? Why is TCP/IP working ok for my
cable modem but not my NIC? I'd really appreciate any help you guys could
throw my way...
I'm running on an ASUS A7V mobo with a Via KT133 chipset if it makes any
difference....

Chris
