Can any one provide guidance for What my TCP/IP properties 1st DNS settings
should be for the following scenario?
I know having the wrong DNS entries can significantly impact performance.

server #1 (Main server, Win2k3, workgroup server) with 6 10/100/1000 ports
port 1 [192.168.1.91] to LAN 1 switch - 1st DNS 192.168.1.91 (separate
subnet)
port 2 [192.168.10.92] to LAN 2 switch - 1st DNS 192.168.10.92 ?
port 3 [192.168.10.93] to server 2 (report/backup) - 1st DNS 192.168.10.93 ?
port 4 [192.168.10.94] to server 3 (Interface) - 1st DNS 192.168.10.94 ?
port 5 [192.168.10.95] to Processor PC 1 - 1st DNS 192.168.10.95 ?
port 6 [192.168.10.96] to Processor PC 2 - 1st DNS 192.168.10.96 ?

Server #2 (Report/backup server, win2k3, workgroup server)
port 1 [192.168.10.83] to server 1, port 3 - 1st DNS 192.168.10.93 ?

Server #3 (Interface server, win2k3, workgroup server) with 2 10/100/1000
ports
port 1 [192.168.10.84] to server 1, port 4 - 1st DNS 192.168.10.94 ?
port 2 [10.10.10.xxx] to gateway/firewall for private LAN - 1st DNS ????
2nd DNS ????

Processor PC #1 (winXPP)
port 1 [192.168.10.85] to server 1, port 5 - 1st DNS 192.168.10.95 ?

Processor PC #2 (winXPP)
port 1 [192.168.10.86] to server 1, port 6 - 1st DNS 192.168.10.96 ?

Most of the above connections are direct (no hub or switch involved).

If a domain server is to be introduced it will be on the 192.168.1.xxx subnet.

We are trying to get the best performance possible between the main server
and the other devices on the 192.168.10.xxx subnet. This is for a very
extensive, very intensive and very active database application.

Dns configuration is not near as critical in a workgroup environment
compared to an Active Directory domain. There is no way of knowing the
answer with the info you provided. You will have to test for best response
and it may change depending on network traffic that the dns server is
handling at any point in time. If it is that critical, you can use hosts
file to add entries for servers and avoid the need for dns name resolution
via dns server for that IP. --- Steve

What's all the "ports"?? Multiple NICs???
One run NIC,.....
...... if there are multple NICs then each needs to be on a different subnet.
.......if there are multiples IP#s from same subnet, then they must all be on
the same NICs.
