Is there a way to filter/close tcp/ip ports in Win98 like
you can in Win2k?

To do so you need firewall software.

Which ports did you have in mind to close? Generally the only ones
which might be listening are the netbios ports if you have file and
printer sharing installed. To close these just unbind file and printer
sharing from your tcp/ip stack.

Well, actually, port 139 will remain open if you do this and won't
close unless you unbind the client for ms networks too. However, I
have yet to hear of anyone getting a successful connection when the
port is in this listening state.

To filter traffic, you need to install a third party firewall.
