After having installed dial-up adapter and ethernet
adapter, the TCP/IP protocal only works for the first
adapter that is installed.
When checking the device manager, there seems to be no
conflict. All devices are said to work properly.
When checking winipcfg, only the IP configuration for the
first adapter is shown (either PPP or 10/100 ethernet).
When checking system info, there is a problem reported
with "TCP/IP NetTrans Code=11". This problem is not
reported when I unplug the last installed adapter.
(Tested with the USB adapter).
Also, when I install USB ethernet first and then dial-up
and then unplug the USB connector, the dial-up connection
will still not work (allthough the USB ethernet card has
diappeared from the device manager).
I have tried this for two different ethernet adapters
(one USB and one PCI - different brands) and all the
same. What you install first, that one only will give
internet access.
The dial-up itself (getting connected to a remote
computer) works in all cases.
I use Windows 98 SE (Dutch). I did install all the
essential Windows updates before I installed the ethernet
adapter the first time.
Very shortly after installing the USB ethernet adapter
the first time, I did a unvoluntary reinstall of Windows
and it might be these problems started then, but I am not
sure about this.
It would be very helpful if somebody could tell me what
to do to fix the problem!!!
