TCP/IP driver disappears on reboot

A friend of mine recently installed a new Linksys
Wireless G USB adapter on his old Win98 machine (upgraded
from Win95). After initially installing the device, it
works fine. But upon restart it doesn't work any more.
I traced the problem to the TCP/IP driver disappearing
from the network setup. The only solution is to
reinstall the TCP/IP driver manually through the Network
Neighborhood properties. How do I keep the system from
removing the driver during reboot? It's driving them
nuts.

Uninstall, remove the card, reinstall the driver, shutdown.
install the card and restart.

I've done this, many times. The problem is very odd.
Sometimes the driver will hang around and work for a few
days. Then, on a random reboot, it will disappear. I am
wondering if any of the old drivers from the original
Win95 installation could be causing this problem? Is
there a location where the drivers are cached, and if so,
how would I tell which one to delete?

I have this same problem with a lynksys EG1032v2 10/100/1000 PCI card
runing on Win2k server.

Drivers disapears after some but not all reboots. Re-installing the
driver does not work...what I mean is, when you get to the "have disk"
option and point windows to the corrent ini file, the list of matching
hardware...remains empty.

To get the driver back, I have to phsyically remove the card, boot,
shutdown, plug card back in, then install driver.
