TCP/IP connecting to Internet

I have a small network under Win 98. Had some major
blowups. Got the network back (TCP/IP) but now when I try
to get to the internet, I get a logon box asking for a
password. Nothing I give it seems to satisfy the problem,
and although I connect with the ISP, I cannot get passed
this logon screen to get to the internet. Microsoft techs
are stumped, and so am I. Any suggestions?

What is the complete and exact text of the logon box? That should
help other people diagnose the problem.

Steve:

The box asks for "Name" and "Password", but it is Windows
based, not from my ISP. Should I try connecting the
network through Netbui, and leave the internet connection
for TCP/IP? I am just guessing that maybe they are
conflicting, and my TCP/IP network thinks a new user is
trying to get on.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Run Internet Explorer, go to Tools | Internet Options | Connections |
LAN Settings, and clear all of the boxes on that screen.

Go to Control Panel | Network, double click "Client for Microsoft
Networks" in the list of components, and clear all of the "Windows NT
domain" boxes.

If that doesn't solve the problem, please provide some more
information:

Does the logon box say anything other than "Name" and "Password"? If
so, what is the complete and exact text -- every single word in the
box?

Does the box appear only for particular web sites, or does it appear
for every web site that you try to access? Does it appear as soon as
you try to run Internet Explorer?

Click the Start button and look for a "Log Off" entry in the menu.
Does it just say "Log Off", or is there a user name, as in "Log Off
Paul"?

You'd make a good dentist.
