Hi all,

I'm not able to use tasklist between two Windows XP pro computers. They are
not on a domain but are both on the same workgroup. The error I am getting
is:

ERROR: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

I am using a command like "tasklist /s compname /u user /p password." I
have also created the same administrator user/password combination on the
local, and remote computer.

Does anyone have any ideas or any expertise in this area?

thanks

Rick

Can you connect to a share on one computer to the other without being
prompted for credentials?

You might want to post this in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general or
..network_web as you've posted this in a server group....

Yes, I can connect to shares between the computers without being asked for
credentials.

This command can be used as part of server administration, but yes, I have
posted on other forums as well

Try:

"tasklist /s compname /u comptername\user /p password."

Thanks, but no luck.

I can connect via remote desktop sharing, but cannot get a simple tasklist
command to work

I just got it to work. It gives you a command line list of tasks running and
what session they are under. Did you ensure that you specified the username
as the computername\useraccount correctly? What error are you getting? The
same logon failure? Is there a possible open session to the other machine
and your logged on as a user account? Since it is a single label name you
are trying to connect to, I assume you have NetBIOS name support in order
for it resolve.

tasklist /s TheRemoteMachine /u TheRemoteMachine\administrator /p Password

Thanks. Everything you mentioned is set correctly as far as i can tell.
When I use the pstools psinfo command, I get "access denied."

Is there any thing that could be blocking my connection attempts?

ok, I got it

the only way it will work is by turning off Simple File Sharing

i.e. My computer -> tools -> folder options -> view tab -> last option at
the bottom

This has also been documented on the SysInternals (pstools) site
