I am with TalkTalk on their 512kbs service (that is closed to new
customers). I run a speed test occasionally just to see what speed I'm
actually getting. Up until a few days ago I always got a speed rating
that was around the 450kbps mark, which with the overheads is about
right for 512kbps. Now the speed has dropped to around the 350kbps mark
and has been as low as 180kbps. I have used the BTWholesale speed
checker and it reports 950kbps (ish), so the problem is not line
quality.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? All thoughts gratefully
received before I ring the 50p per minute technical line.

Many Thx,
db.

No need to call the 50p/min number, the problem is not with your set-up, but
their network.

The answer to has anyone else experienced....... Then the answer would be yes,
everyone on TalkTalk have, this is why I got away from their broadband
service, their phone service I'd recommend, their broadband should be avoided
at all costs.

Many thx for the reply.

The speed seems to be back to normal toady after a week of being slow.
I will monitor it in the future.

I am cannot leave talktalk until December (12 month contract). But I am
pretty sure I will be off somewhere else after that. The customer
service is terrible as well as the erratic speed of the broadband.

I joined December 2004 and by March 2005 I moved back to Pipex, TalkTalk
issued me with my MAC key and allowed me to move away without penalty, because
their broadband service was next to useless, the connection just kept dropping
several times an hour, downloads would crawl as would P2P at 0.5k/s if you
were lucky. I had never had any of those problems with Pipex and still don't
now I have moved back.

I have the same problem with them now but on th P2P side and basical
they have recently introduced a so called new technology to stop al
that without letting us know so we as a regular user now have bee
ripped off. I can see a FAIR use an if they are doing it during pea
times eve 12 hours a day,we can still hav 12 hours o P2P bu they ha
simply banned it all. Funy enough looking on their site .

quoted from their site

TalkTalk Broadband 1Mbps is great however you browse the internet!

Perfect for spending hours at a time online, network gaming and heap
of music and movie downloads.

At this speed you'll be looking into the future of the internet. Musi
videos and movies will download quicker than you can watch them an
internet radio stations will sound as though the DJ is next door
TalkTalk broadband 1 Mbps is the multimedia lovers choice.

NOW WHERE IS THE FUTURE OF TH INTERNET IF I CANNOT DOWNLOAD MY FAVORIT
MUSIC / MOVIES OR EVEN WATCH TV THR IT USING P2P SOFTWARE???

The say the d thi t CONTROL thetrafic whic makes sense if tey half m
download speed or restrict the hours of P2P' ing... But they hav
stopped i all now andi a stuck with them for another 6 months..
(unless i can demand to leave early without penalty)
