TalkTalk Outage

Right, I'm on a PAYG ATM because I'm getting an invalid user or password
on the domain. I've been tinkering setting up a router and thought I
might've cocked up the password so phoned up customer support and while
waiting there was a message saying about an outage in London, which
incidentally is where I'm sending this from.

Now, before I get back on the phone, would an outage make it look like
there's an invalid user/pass on the domain? I thought if there was an
outage it'd just connect but there'd be no traffic.

Ta.

Not necessarily. It could be that the authentication kit has gone tits up.
The word 'outage' is a generalisation.

You could be right. After a lengthy and at times, frustrating phone call
to Bombay (or wherever they have their call centre), the bloke at the
other end made me jump through all sorts of the usual hoops - closing
windows, renaming my pets etc and changed the password on the internet
connection.

It's now up and running.

So London having an outage is either something that isn't affecting all
of us, is an outdated message or I'm just lucky.

Cheers.

So jumping through some hoops worked? Is that what you are saying here?

It depends onto which part of the network you connect, in a nutshell, so
yes, an 'outage' in London might only affect users in the South West of the
country, whilst those in the north see no issues.

I'm flabbergasted but yes.

You know, the usual stuff they get you to try like deleting the
connection and installing it manually and making sure the Caps lock
isn't on. You know, that sort of nonsense.

I really didn't think it had anything to do with that and wanted them to
say it was the 'outage' but the Bombay geezer reset my password anyway
(grrrr) and it now works.

Gawd know how but it works.

They did say "the London area" so you could be right there.

It's better north of the river anyway. Everyone knows that
