I've been unable to view newsgroups in Outlook Express.

Have contacted their customer service many times, no joy.

I just keep getting a message saying its unavailable, though i've put
in the correct newsgroup info.

Have not had problems with any other server, but TalkTalk is very
cheap..

Any clues on how to get this to work?

Thnaks

Talk Talk dont offer a news service, so use a 3rd party news feed.
I use Giganews ... not the cheapest, but it can't be faulted.

Talk talk don't have a newserver as far as I know? What have they told you
when you asked them? Surely they must know that? What newsgroup info did
they give you?

It was very hard to understand any of the emails from TalkTalk..
gibreish non-English tech-language.

They said they don't do newsgroups, but then told me to use
news.talktalk.net.. confusing

Thanks

Interesting - I've just tried pinging mews.talktalk.net. Results as under:

C:\Documents and Settings\gordon>ping news.talktalk.net

Pinging news.opaltelecom.net [62.24.224.34] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 62.24.224.34:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

I think you'll find that when they were just a dial-up ISP they did have a
news service, presumably outsourced to opaltelecom. I suspect that since
they have ceased it the DNS servers still carry the link.

When TalkTalk broadband first came into being they did indeed have a
news server (I used it), but like its email servers it was always ropey
so many people used free alternatives.

Over a year ago the news server fell over yet again, TalkTalk have just
not bothered to get it up and running again.

Unfortunately, that proves absolutely nothing except that there is a DNS
RR records for news.talktalk.net. Looking at DNS for the same shows that
it is a CNAME for news.opaltelecom.net (whom CPW own).

It doesn't not prove a single thing regarding whether or not they offer
a usenet service.
