TalkTalk Contract Termination

I am not a TalkTalk customer and have not been able to get any
information from their web site and have not been able to get through
to any of their customer service numbers to ask them the questions...

I am a landlord and one of my tenants has mentioned they will be
signing up for TalkTalk 'free' broadband (and thus going for the TT
telephone service too).

Now I see that TT require an 18 month contract and terminating this
requires the contractee (the tenant) to pay the remainder of the term.

I am aware that the tenant will not be there after another 4 months.
Now I have no real reason to doubt the tenant and that he will inform
TT of the new address when he moves and move the TT contract there,
however, what happens in the case if he does not?

What if the tenant decides to move and not give me a forwarding address
(which I can inform to TT)? Who ends up paying TT to remove the TT
broadband and revert the telephone line to BT - if the new tenant does
not want TT?

I am aware that the contract is between the tenant and TT, however if
the tenant has gone, I would nto want the hassle of sorting out any
mess with TT which I presume will be the case. How difficult can TT
make it for me?

Regards
DB

Tricky! The tenant is responsible for sorting it out with TT. Unfortunately
they may decide to do a runner as far as this is concerned. It might not be
legal but I would be tempted to retain the deposit until it is sorted.

Have you tried contacting them now, before it all kicks off ? - if not,
it might be worth doing it in writing to confirm your position as a
landlord only, with no responsibility for any arrears / missed payments
by the tenant.

If the tenant does a flit without reverting the line, have you kept hold
of a deposit from them ?

The question is will TalkTalk Have the line enabled within 4 months?

Pesonally i`d tell your tenant you don`t wish this action happen and if they
do you will retain their Deposit until you know that they have cleared up
with TalkTalk Upon leaving.

The deposit is always retained until all the bills etc have been sorted
out - however thanks for giving me another idea. The standard deposit
may not be enough to cover TT, so if the tenant wishes to sign up for
TT or similar service (Sky etc) then I may be able to specify a
security deposit top up similar to x number of months of TT fees.

Do yourself a favour and recommend to your tenant that he choose another
isp, one with a monthly contract.
Whether he goes or stays, TalkTalk really is a horrible option to choose.
Many many complaints about the service. You just need to check the forums.
My aunt had a horrible experience with them. They started her contract but
could not connect her for 6 months and was billing her all the time. When
she cancelled and managed to get out of it, she got BT to take over her
line. 2 weeks later BT wrote to her to say Talk talk had arranged to take
the line back again - without her permission. It was very messy indeed.

*STOP* - the agreement is not with you, it is between the company and the
person that requested the service.
That's all there is to it.

Oh I always do and I also offer them the EntaNet service that my
company resells. However they want to 'save money' wherever possible
and if something is 'free' why pay another ISP £15-£20 per month.

:-/

No matter how much I or others tell people that they get what they pay
for, they will always do what they think is best wrt saving money.

Yes I know but the service will be delivered to a property owned by me.

I have had issues with Bulldog in the past - where the tenant did not
listen to me, and decided to sign up with Bulldog. Thus also converting
the BT line into a C&W one.

The tenant moved away a number of months ago, the new tenants do not
want Bulldog, and they want a BT line. However Bulldog will not listen
to me (the landlord) and require the previous tenant to contact them
(who is now in China). Even though that previous tenant has contacted
them, Bulldog have not done anything. The line can not be reconverted
to BT and another DSL provider give a service until Bulldog do what is
required.. but they are not playing ball... even though the previous
tenant is not paying them anything.

Hence my apprehension and the question about TalkTalk that this other
tenant in another property wants to go for.

The contract may be between two parties - the tenant and the broadband
provider - but it potentially affects a third party (the landlord) that
the contract does not recognise.

Not quite. If his next tenant is stuck with a line they can't use for
ADSL because TT are hanging on to it...
