talktalk connection problem

I'm helping a friend set up talktalk on his new Vista computer. He's
already got an account so there shouldn't have been a problem but....

After the installation screen that tests the modem (it gets a tick),
the next step is to test the network connection and this fails. I've
gone into control panel and manually configured the internet
connection and I get Error 815 and then a message about the PPPOE
setting and the remote server (sorry I'm not at his PC and am writing
this from memory).

I've checked the properties of the modem and it's working fine. The
diagnostics for the connection say that there is no problem (?!).

So why can't he connect to the internet???

Any help greatly appreciated.

(You need to let us know the make and model of router etc.)

I think you need PPPoA not PPPoE but this page helped me set mine up:
