Any opinions on TalkTalk Broadband?

Free modem, free connection @ £19.99 / month for 512K unlimited?

They don't seem to appear on ADSLGuide.org. Any catches?

Thanx.

Too new for that, they only announced within the last few days.

It's wait and see time. A couple of guys on ADSLguide have signed up.

They are not reselling they are providing their own infrastructure through
Opal Telecom.

The service is IPStream based with static IP addresses.

I'll post more when I know it.

Jc.

Thanx for the replies.

They appear to be very competitive.

I posted a rather lengthy review a few days ago. Search
groups.google.com for it if you want more details...

In short, although there was a bit of confusion in sending me the
modem, at the end of the day I was up-and-running several days before
the told me I'd be activated. The speed tests--for the 512k
service--are right where they should be (around 500 off-peak hours,
300-500 in the evening). Getting ahold of a real person was easy (for
the confusion with the modem). It's an unlimited service, unlike the 1
or 2gig per month caps offered at this price with other companies...

For less than £20 a month, including free evening/weekend calls
throughout the UK, US, Canada and Australia, they blow the competition
away in my mind!

If anybody is interested in signing up, send me an email and I'll give
you a referral code that will start your account with a £20 credit
(one month free, basically). Any other questions, email me those as
well!

Compared to +Net - no hosted domain for free, 15Mb web space, 5 email
addresses (?SMTP Mail) no anti-spam or Virus protection (though I do
not use these.

Of course these services are available elsewhere.

You raise a good point for the less savvy home user though. Virus
protection is very important for muggles.

While a 'free domain' is sometimes attractive, it might be better to pay
a few pounds for a domain (under a tenner for .*.uk usually) and have as
much control over it as you want without having any transfer fees if you
want to move it... Also remember that Plus.Net has business accounts to
offer and would not be happy for a residential customer to be running a
business on that connection, so another reason to keep any domains quite
separate from hosting with Plus.Net, IMO.

Also, many hosting packages offer more than 15 MB (oh, perhaps comparing
with Plus.Net which allows more space but has a restriction on traffic,
and from time to time, users complain about the hosting facilities (OK
no ISP claims to be perfect :-) being sluggish or logs being late...

PlusNet <http://tinyurl.com/24ymz> - I recommend them and save some cash.

My other ISP : UK Free Software Network <http://www.ukfsn.org>
UKFSN passes all profits to Free Software projects in the UK.
