Hi

A friend is on Talk Talk broadband and currently uses the USB modem they
supplied, but wants to use a laptop wirelessly now, so is thinking of buying
a modem/router. an any such device be configured to connect to Talk Talk or
does it have to be their own kit?

Cheers

I use a ZyXel modem wireless router - PC World £40 - connected via
cable to PC and use it with wireless laptop. It works well with the
only settings required are the account settings in the modem
configuration page. Any other device should work equally as well.
Recommend using ethernet cable for initial set up, before going
wireless.

Also don't forget WPA-PSK to stop all your neighbours connecting to it - and
change the default access password to the configuration pages.
Make sure the router supports UPNP and has a firewall built in.
DO NOT be conned in to extended warranties if you buy from PC WORLD. The
router will be guaranteed for a year anyway and the shop must change it if
it is faulty under the sales of goods act. Ignore what lies sales people
tell you - they earn money from worthless policies.
