Talk-Talk Broadband - what modem do you get?

Been asked by a friend about Talk-Talk BB and the modem that gets supplied.

Looked at their site but cannot find straight answers to the questions. Does
anyone here know the answers to the bits below?

1- If you do not buy the 'optional' modem pack at £29.99, do you still get
filters sent or do you have to buy separately?

2- What make/model is the modem they refer to? Is it really special or will
any ADSL2+ modem work?

Ideally they want wireless, so thinking along lines of a Linksys WAG354G (or
similar). I cannot see any reason why this should be ideal, and suspect the
'recommended' bit is just a way of clawing some set up costs back.

Thanks

J

You get the modem of them for 'no charge' the £29.99 is a 'connection
fee', it's just a cheap USB modem, mine has never been out of the box
they sent it to me in.

Not only that but it is powered from the computer - So what that does tothe
speed training assuming the PC is not on 24/7 is anyones guess - I suspect it
stays low. As does the chap's next door.

However, another guy down the road had a real modem - which he kept off and
guess what - that was down at 2 - Told him to leave it on and so far it has
jumped to 3.5
