I am having problems logging into my pptp RAS server when
the client is on a network that has the same IP Subnes as my RAS server (Private 192.168.1.0/24). If I change the subnet that the client is on to anything other than 192.168.1.x, the vpn works like a champ. I can authenticate to the vpn server but unable to ping anything at my office?? Client: winxp pro RRAS: Win2K Srvr, and tried it on Win2k3 Anyclues on how to fix this? I assume it's a problem with the IP routes but unchecking "Make remote gateway the default" does not fix this issue. What am I missing?? mike |

I just tried unchecking "Use default gateway on remote
network" with a host file for my servers seams to have done the work. I'm not sure though because my home network that I'm using now has no other devices. When I was on another network on the same subnet, there were other devices with the same private ip of my remote servers. So I'm good or there is something else I need to do with arp cache...anyone else have same problems? >-----Original Message----- >I am having problems logging into my pptp RAS server when >the client is on a network that has the same IP Subnes as >my RAS server (Private 192.168.1.0/24). If you are on a 192.168.1.x/24 net your machine will look for the server on your subnet (i.e. the local network) it will never send traffic to the RAS connection. You can however make the subnet smaller on the client side. If the mask on the client side is 255.255.255.248 and your address is 192.168.1.1 for example you will send packets to any address between 192.168.1.8 and 192.168.1.254 because these machines are not on your subnet.
