Default Exchange server lost mail

Got a quicky one here, We have a gentleman at our office who at one time was using exchange server for mail for the comany, had all of his stuff saved on the exchange server. Then his machine had to be rebuilt and he set it up as POP3, but had it also set to leave messages on the server. I then switched it back to exchange for him. However he has now seemed to lost mail from September 2003 until today's date. Which is weird, because his system was not rebuilt until December of 2003 which was the time he set it up to be a POP3, and then just switched back from POP3 to Exchange (2 days ago) which the settings in POP3 were to leave messages on the server. The time frame is not matching as to why the emails are lost. He said he has not deleted them off the server either. Theoretically since he was using POP3 and having it set to leave messages on the server, it would be almost identical to how exchange works. Anyone have any ideas? Also is there a way to check the exchange server to see if these emails still exists and may not be coming up on his computer for some reason.

Thanks,

Chris...

The only time I saw mail missing was from two different issues:

1. When Outlook is setup and Exchange Server is not in the profile, and
Outlook is opened, it will retrieve the mail and dump it to a local .pst
file. If you then add Exchange Server to the profile, you have to change
the delivery or it will still dump it to the local file.

2. If you were using a .pst file and it got to 2Gb in size, any new messages
would push other messages out of the file, without warning and without any
known order to make room for new messages.

You might want to include this request in an Exchange NG.
