whats the best way to have a users my documents folder backed up to a file
server? in the past i have used a small script that the user would run before they logged off. with server 2003 is there a better way? i could redirect the my documents folder but then it wont be there when theyre offline. |

I don't even bother with trying to redirect the my documents folder. On the
server I have created a "Users" folder under which I have created a folder for each user, named the same as their username. Grant only the user the folder is named after full control of the folder. Use a login script to map the drive to the server each time they log in, or manually map the drive when the user is logged in. Then train the users to save to their "home" folder on the server. Remember to emphasize that if it is not saved in their home folder it will not get backed up and you are not responsible for retrieving files not saved on the server. hth DDS W 2k MVP MCSE <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:wrEKb.30875$(E-Mail Removed) et... > whats the best way to have a users my documents folder backed up to a file > server? in the past i have used a small script that the user would run > before they logged off. with server 2003 is there a better way? i could > redirect the my documents folder but then it wont be there when theyre > offline. > > |

Then don't let them get offline. Or use a replication process. Or move My Documents into their profile and out of Local Settings. Jeff |
