Hi,
After some doing I managed to get a domain working over a VPN connection. That's all good. But now out third server cannot connect to the network anylonger... I have not included that server in the domain yet, since I cannot get it do dial up reliably... Sometimes it manages to establish the PPTP connection the main office and sometimes (more often) it just keeps counting connection time until the timout goes and the connection gets the 'Unreachable' status. I know that this isn't much info to go on - but frankly I don't have that much more to give you... it just won't connect most of the times. At a point it seemed to have something to do with if another VPN/PPTP connection had already been established from another computer (and another account). Both servers are setup as routers, with static routes and demand-dial. The connection works fine between "office 1" and "office 2", but not between "office 1" and office 3". Any help is appriciated - I may have overlooked some simple thing... // Fredrik Fredrik |

Does this server connect directly to the Internet, or does it go via a
router? Some SOHO routers will only allow one or two VPN connections to be made through them. They do not give any sensible messages, just fail to connect. It's connected directly to the internet - all three are.

It could be a problem with the demand-dial interfaces. To get this to
work, you will need two demand-dial interfaces configured at the "main" site - one for each connection. This is also essential to get the routing working properly. Each demand dial interface at the main office must have a static route to the "calling" office's subnet. The "calling" router must use the name of its demand dial interface as the username when it connects, to ensure that it connects correctly and sets up the correct static route. As far as I know - that's exactly what I've done. Since it
works, just not always... Well, back to square one - reconficure of the RAS service. // Fredrik >-----Original Message----- > It could be a problem with the demand-dial interfaces. If you have two separate demand dial interfaces on the server at "office
1" , it shouldn't matter whether other connections are made or not. The office server calling up should connect, because it has exclusive use of that interface. Do you have the same problem if you do it the other way around? (That is, if you can get office 3 to connect first, does office 2 have problems?) You may have to turn on tracing in RRAS and search the trace. (It produces heaps of output because it logs every step, but it might give you a hint on where the trouble is). Yes, the problem occurs both ways - but only between
Office 1 and 3 not 1 and 2 // Fredrik >-----Original Message----- > If you have two separate demand dial interfaces on the server at "office >1" , it shouldn't matter whether other connections are made or not.
