Our WIN98 workstations, running the same applications as our WINXP workstations, run the apps much faster! Includes DBase programs, Excel & Word. Our server has Windows 2003 Server, Enterprise edition. Is there a registry setting we can change to speed up the XP stations? Example: On XP workstation, save an Excel file to server takes several seconds, save it locally takes an instant. On the WIN98 station, the same file saves instantly to server. |

JK, Is this in general of the performance. Just out of curiosity is DNS set up correctly such that windows XP has the internal IP of the server ? XP is very reliant on DNS and you WILL experience slowdowns if XP has to fall back to NetBIOS (NetBT) to getname resolution. Let me say this, the moment XP finds the name and "creates" the flow to the share then it is just as fast as win98. I believe the time you feeling is the lookup time and negotiating time. Regards, |
