That is not the most accurate place to go to find out about the speed he could get. You only really know when then service is activated. For line length go to http://www.samknows.com/broadband/ , type in the phone number and post code, and it will give you a an straight line distance, although it will show the same speed at the bt wholesale checker, because it gets speed information from there you may find the line is not as long as it suggests. I get exactly the same reading with my number, despit being 2.3km from the exchange and having an actually speed of around 3mbps. Not the highest but higher then what the wholesale check was stating. You will only really find out when the service is you. ISP who appear to be good would be O2 and BE at the moment, so he may as well try them. If they have unbundled the exchange then you should get better speeds then if your were connected the the BT DSLAM's. No ISP can change the laws of physics so unless there is a fault, most ISP cant do anything. Of course most of the bigger ones will ignore you anyway even if there is a fault on the line. The rule is simple, you get what you pay for, with broadband, and what you really pay for a Customer service. naza |
