I was watching Sky Satellite TV around 21-15 when suddenly I lost picture
and sound, just getting white noise. At the time the loss of signal occurred there was a dull thud in the distance and the lights all dimmed for an instant. Everything else seemed OK immediately afterwards but still just white noise on SKY. The only button on the remote that seems to work OK is the On/Off one. I cannot access anything , channels, services etc. I suspected a short mains power interruption so came up to the computer to check the router log. Ah! New log started at around 21-18 and my synch rate is higher than it's ever been at 7200 kbps. (It was 6816 kbps earlier and in all the time I've been with Plusnet I've never had a value higher than 7016 kbps.) "Test Results: Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information. Your DSL connection rate: 7200 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) IP profile for your line is - 6000 kbps Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5417 kbps " Now the loss of the day's earlier router log confirms that there was a power outage, but why should it have upped the synch rate and decimated my Sat TV? Usually around this time of night, if I reboot the router I'm lucky if it will connect at more than 6464 kbps. Looks like I won't be watching any more Satellite TV for a few days. ![]() -- Heard melodies are sweet, but those Unheard are sweeter (E-Mail Removed) FN 2°°8 +, Mungo Brandybuck of Buckland Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°8 + |

It may have killed a few devices that used to be connected to the phone lines (like your sky box) thereby resulting in less line noise overall ? |

Maybe, but I've managed to get the SKY box working again and I've still got a synch rate of 7200 kbps - unprecedented for my set up. Not complaing though since http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ is showing a d/l speed of 5906 kbps, Not seen anything above 5400 kbps before. -- Heard melodies are sweet, but those Unheard are sweeter (E-Mail Removed) FN 2°°8 +, Mungo Brandybuck of Buckland |

You don't get particularly reliable results from a speed test website - try installing a download manager (I use Orbit Downloader) and grab an ISO from a site with decent speed, such as a ubuntu mirror - that will give you a pretty good indicator of the max speed you can download at ! |

Not too worried about accuracy or the actual value Colin, just commenting on the fact it's better than I've ever seen here before. I actually have NetPerSec and that showed a peak of 6.2 Mbits/sec whilst I was getting that 5906 kbps value. -- Heard melodies are sweet, but those Unheard are sweeter (E-Mail Removed) FN 2°°8 +, Mungo Brandybuck of Buckland |
