Hi,
my friend has a Virgin broadband account via a Motorola Surfboard 5101 modem. Recently she lost connectivity and her flatmate tried to help her to restore the service by using a BlueYonder installation CD even though it's a LAN connection. It didn't work out too well but now, at each startup a box opens titled "blueyonder installation": "If the installation CD is not in the CD drive, insert it now". There's no CD to be found. Also, no search of the C:\ drive for "blueyonder" or "blue yonder" produces any hits. No finds using these same search terms in RegEdit either. XP's Device Manager shows no signs of a related driver install, successful, partial or otherwise, either when accessed normally or in Safe Mode. Can anyone please tell me how to get rid of the sticky dialogue box? -- Regards, Dick Treen treenoakio@googlemail.com |

You need to be familiar with MSCONFIG and REGEDIT. Look in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup for a shortcut that starts the Blue Yonder dialog. Delete the shortcut. Repeat this for all the different usernames (default user, all users, administrator). If this fails, then ... .... Probably msconfig will have an entry relating to completion of the Blue Yonder installation. The name may have very little to do with Blue Yonder. Find this, and by disabling it confirm that this is causing the dialog box when you next restart. If necessary disable each entry in turn to find the right one. If you have to disable them all and still cannot find the cause als hera again. Note that this will now bring up a msconfig dialog box when you next restart. If you find it use regedit to find the registry entry that msconfig showed you. Delete this entry and reboot. Msconfig should now no longer show the entry, and won't prompt you on the next restart. -- Graham J |
